Tweet, tweet

After listening to the interview between Terri Gross and Biz Stone, I have so much more respect for Twitter. I had been hearing about this concept of "tweeting" for years, but failed to see its relevance and importance to me and the rest of the internet-using population. Once Stone began to talk about how Twitter became a means through which people could express themselves and even call for help, I got chills. His example of the student who travelled to Egypt, began tweeting, and eventually got arrested was extremely eye-opening. I almost feel safer now that I have a twitter account, and I understand its purpose to be a promotion of the freedom of expression. Twitter is the ultimate tool to do just what Stone's goal is: to connect people everywhere to everything that is meaningful to them. Even more so than Facebook, twitter engages strangers, news programs, governments, and companies alike. I also found it to be amazing how it began as a side project and snowballed into a global phenomenon. Our American freedoms (speech, expression, information) are inevitably spreading to the rest of the world through this one Internet network. Without even trying it promotes democracy and promotes conversation. Having the capability of stirring up a revolution, Twitter has become a catalyst for change for the better.
