Wikipedia is a great tool for quickly finding concise information on virtually anything. It can be helpful for research projects, finding information on important people and celebrities, and for scientific and medical purposes. I contributed to a Wikipedia page on a certain medication I am currently prescribed. I found that the entry had limited background on the pill and thought it would helpful to contribute more information. As mentioned, Wikipedia is a great way to learn about drugs, their side effects, and their history. I added a warning to the page that originally appeared on my pill bottle, in an effort to caution others.
"Breastfeeding is not recommended while using this drug. Consult a doctor or pharmacist for clarification. [The drug's] effects may be intensified with alcohol. Users should use care when operating vehicles and/or dangerous machines."
Before I posted the entry, I had to make a wikipedia account, which went smoothly. I proceeded to peruse the particular entry I was going to contribute to and tried to decide the best placement for it. The "edit" links were very confusing. When I thought I was adding to the "Side Effects" section, it showed up in "Citations." It took me another five or so minutes to figure out which button would lead me to edit the "Side Effects," paste my words there, and delete the entry I previously put. It has stayed up since I posted it on Tuesday, March 23. Nobody contributed to it or edited it...yet. Apparently the pill isn't a popular drug.
